“All I need is… gender equality”

In theory, women nowadays possess the same rights as men. In reality, despite the legal guarantee, these rights are often violated. One such case of violation is women discrimination in the workplace. Discrimination is multi-level phenomenon and may affect many aspects of women’s employment, such as age, the fact of having children or disability. The complexity of the problem makes it more difficult to recognize the symptoms of discrimination, especially if victim is an inexperienced person.

According to the research made by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), female employment rates have expanded considerably and the gender employment and wage gaps have narrowed virtually everywhere, on average, women still have 20% less of a chance to have a job and are paid 17% less than men.

Barriers posed to women in the workplace blocks the personal development, which can lead to a worse perception of their own and the lack of a sense of fulfillment in life. Extremely vulnerable for this type of threat are young women who are just starting their career path and are rarely aware of the seriousness of the topic of discrimination. Not having an established occupational position and knowledge of the phenomenon may be additional risk factors of being discriminated.

Project aims to raise awareness of not only for young women who haven’t started their first work yet, but also for those who have already joined the labor market. We also would like to inform what the symptoms of discrimination are and how young women can protect before it.

Objectives of the training course:

  • understanding the discrimination of women in the society, focusing on the professional life
  • raising young women’s awareness on their rights in a workplace
  • sharing the personal experiences of participants from various European countries in terms of gender discrimination
  • being aware of the causes of the phenomenon
  • creative looking for alternative ways of managing the negative consequences of the discrimination

Target group:

Youth/Social workers, youth leaders who work in the field of care for young people with fewer opportunities.

 Venue: Ödemiş, IZMIR / TURKEY

Duration: 8 days (included travel days)

Dates: September 2014 (exact dates to be specified later)

Economic Conditions: %70 of travel and %100 of accommodation expenses will be covered by the project.
